I’m pretty sure I don’t need to go into the reasons it is important to build/keep your muscles around especially as you age. Yes, including all you women out there too. Don’t worry we are not talking about “bulking up”, just staying “lean and mean”…well maybe not all that “mean”.
One of my missions as a trainer was to always help people find fitness on their own terms, and nowadays I think that also includes non-dependency on a gym.
“What?!?! A trainer saying to not go to the gym? Gasp!”
Sure, why not…heck I …
Could your weight loss troubles be fixed by such a simple outlook? Could this actually replace all diet plans out there?
The idea came to me over the weekend when focusing on the mainstream mindset when it comes to eating.
Simple weight loss fact: if we eat less overall we have the potential to lose weight. I know…so revolutionary! (sarcastically speaking) But yet this simple wisdom is overlooked by many, why is that?
Diets come out with their complex and unenjoyable (for many) eating plans to keep you eating less. That is their “secret” to success.
Whether it be from making you nibble all …

Growing up all the kids in the neighborhood all like to just go outside and “play”. Usually nothing very structured. Found out whoever was around and then decided what we all felt like playing.
Some days it was whiffle ball, others kickball, maybe a little street hockey, just riding the bikes around the neighborhood or going to the neighbor’s pool to swim.
I was out playing some Frisbee golf the other day (which was actually my 2nd time), and this thought came to me:
“You know what…I have no desire to ever step foot …
“IF” does stand for “Intermittent Fasting”, but some may forget to keep the “I” in with their lifestyle. This could be a mistake.
There are many ways in which IF can work for a person, and each person may vary in approaches (believe it or not…shocking I know). I like to say that IF is a great “tool” to use in your lifestyle, and it is not some set “diet” plan that has to have a strict set of rules for everyone.
The IF lifestyle is also about being a “freeing” one.
Free from the nutritional dogma and strict diet rules of today …

Honestly when it comes to health and weight loss, you probably know what you need to do. Are there really any true breakthroughs that will help you? Not really. Are you shocked when you hear to “eat less overall, eat healthier foods and exercise more”? Nah.
At some point most everyone has been lean and then maybe life took over, things became busy, emotions were more important, things happened….who knows. But that’s life….things are supposed to happen. Nothing stays the same, it never does. People come, people go. Relationships …

This is a guest post from Rusty Moore at Fitness Black Book about the muscle gaining process he outlines in his newest course Visual Impact.
The gym can be a frustrating place at times. These days I’m fortunate enough to not lift in a “Go Big or Go Home” type of gym, but I do remember what that was like.
There are several red flags to watch out for in a free weight room: skull caps, sunglasses (indoors), and heavy use of the word bro…“it’s all you bro! It’s all you!”. If you workout in this type of environment, I feel …

Without a doubt, my most popular article on the blog ever has been the Trainer Tells All post, with I can’t even tell you how many times it has been viewed (a ridiculously big number!). People have asked for a “follow up”, which I always responded “Well I already told ‘all’, so what is left for me to say?” (in a joking tone).
My first “tell all” post came to me as I was out for a long mountain bike one day, and the random thoughts just started coming to me …

Dips and Inverted Rows
Dips are often called the “upper …

Less is more in my book. Sometimes in a world full of massive information overload we need to step back and find more wisdom from within.
If you have seen my attempts at daily wisdom and wit on my Facebook status (as I know no one gives $0.02 about where I am and what I am really doing), I try to find quotes to inspire people to think about a deeper message, and apply to their life. Little words that pack a bigger punch.
So here are many of the top …

Many people are always asking about what is the “big fuss” over “grass fed” when it comes to meat (beef), eggs and dairy. The big fuss is about choosing a better quality of meat that is more in line with what our bodies were designed to use. Little do many really know there is a big difference between a nice bison (grass fed) burger and a Big Mac.
So rather than bore you with a lengthy article about all the advantages, how about just some simple pictures and bullet points to drive it home. If a picture is worth a 1000 …
