Awesome article. Most of the people think meals before a workout is the only one need to be concerned about. Which is one of the biggest mistakes. The meal after is also equally important to get your body back to it's original state.

Joey- You could try some BCAAs pre-workout, it shouldn't interfere with your energy and also can help increase protein/muscle repair. I linked to a study about it in the comments here: http://theiflife.com/fitness/2008/03/10/building-muscle-101-master-the-basics/comment-page-2/#comment-1690

Hey Mike I have a bit of a dilemma. I do my work out first thing in the morning at around 7 am because it is the only time my fiancé and I can work out together. we arrive at the gym at 7 and do our CrossFit WOD together.

Now I try to keep my eating window from 2 - 10 pm because I like my increased energy and focus during the day but that means forgoing the post workout meal. I am happy with my bf % and only want to bring my lean mass up by 2 pounds to 160 and no more.

So my question is would I be doing myself a huge disservice by holding off on my pwo for a few hours after my workout? I try to be fairly active all day and don't our muscles repair themselves mostly at night when we are asleep? I would assume that means I should be fine as long an my daily caloric intake is enough and I eat the right things before i go to sleep.
