Top Health and Fitness Quotes

Posted Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Less is more in my book. Sometimes in a world full of massive information overload we need to step back and find more wisdom from within.

If you have seen my attempts at daily wisdom and wit on my Facebook status (as I know no one gives $0.02 about where I am and what I am really doing), I try to find quotes to inspire people to think about a deeper message, and apply to their life. Little words that pack a bigger punch.

So here are many of the top health and fitness quotes out there for you to read, ponder over and spread to others as well. Note that even without many of the modern advances in understanding through science/medicine, how true some of these quotes were from long ago.

You may agree with some, disagree with others, and others may just be funny…but if they make you think, then they have done their job. Enjoy!

Great quotes all. A lot of people out there have a tendency to make eating and exercise seem like a gigantic minefield. These quotes just go to show that common sense throughout time is usually better than the latest “breakthrough.”

As your site illustrates, what to do is really not all that complicated. How what you do acts on your body is tremendously complex and not well understood, but people have been using things like intermittent fasting since really the dawn of time.

Instead of always running after the newest thing, I enjoy seeing the time tested wisdom you have brought together.

    Mike OD Reply:

So true John. All those breakthroughs are really eventually going to come full circle back to the simplest things we already know that are true. Keeping it simple is the best way for anyone to make their health and results last over a lifetime. Complicated strategies make for up and down weight gain (as people go on and burn off diets) and a OCD lifestyle revolved around eating. Not something that life should really be about. Funny how there are people in countries in small towns living healthy lives and no access to all the information we do.

Amen to that. My immune system has been iron tough since I started fasting back in September.

Funny how much wisdom was known long ago, yet drowned out nowadays. Getting back to “allowing” the body to heal/repair itself is certainly the best plan out there.

    Thanks for this list Mike!

I’m a HUGE advocate for PREVENTION over PRESCRIPTION which is what a lot of these quotes point to.

Take the time NOW to set yourself up for success LATER.

Health should be a number one priority for EVERYBODY regardless of what you do! It’s so true that, “When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot become manifest, strength cannot be exerted, wealth is useless, and reason is powerless.” ~ Herophiles

    Let’s keep our priorities straight.

This is the first time I saw this quote which is unfortunately far too common in today’s society: “Many so-called spiritual people, they overeat, drink too much, they smoke and don’t exercise. But they do go to church every week and pray ‘Please help my arthritis. Please help me bring up my strength, make me young again.’” ~ Jack LaLanne

THIS is my all time favorite: “A man’s health can be judged by which he takes two at a time – pills or stairs.” ~ Joan Welsh

    Thanks again!
